Flood Alert: Manaslu Region
An avalanche and flooding in Gorkha`s Birendra Lake area have caused significant damage. Chief Basudev Pathak of the District Police Office, Gorkha, confirmed the destruction of a bridge connecting Samdu and Samagaon by floodwaters. While initial reports suggested a burst lake, further investigation reveals the overflow stemmed from an avalanche, washing away a makeshift bridge. Fortunately, there`s no immediate threat of further damage.
Chief District Officer Bhola Dahal is assessing the extent of damage from the overflowing lake waters. Residents of Dharche, Arughat, and nearby areas are cautioned as flooding remains a risk.
The Ministry of Home Affairs reported a major flood event in the Budhigandaki River due to Birendra Lake`s overflow.
According to Lakshmi Gurung, vice president of Chumanubri Rural Municipality, an avalanche triggered the lake overflow, causing flooding. The full extent of the damage is still under evaluation.
Birendra Lake, located 52 kilometers from Gorkha headquarters, merges its water downstream with the Budhigandaki River.
